We are a dedicated team of veteran students and faculty committed to supporting and empowering the military-connected community at Middlesex College.

Middlesex College strives to help students maximize their educational benefits and successfully transition from military service to college and beyond, into the workforce.

Our goal is to bridge the gap between students and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), ensuring you receive the support and resources you need to succeed.

Our Services

Staff at the College’s Veterans Services Center, located inside the West Hall building on the College’s main campus in Edison, help veteran students with the following:

• Manage education benefits
  • Guidance on VA education benefits (Chapter 31, Chapter 33, Chapter 35, Chapter 1606, National Guard Tuition Waiver)
  • VA work-study opportunities for eligible students
• Career and post-graduation guidance, including exploration of vocations and selecting a suitable major/career
  • Find job placement assistance and coordinate with Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives (LVER) and Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Programs (DVOP)
• Elect healthcare benefits with Veterans Healthcare Administration
• Guidance with applying for benefits (e.g., disability compensation, life insurance, education, home loan guaranty, and vocational rehabilitation) as well as understanding billing and payments
• Referrals for medical and mental health care
• Referrals for readjustment counseling services for eligible veterans and their families
• Coordinate with school faculty/staff to provide veteran-specific services (e.g., VA Certifying Official, Career Readiness and Planning, Accessibility and Disability Resources, Counseling and Student Wellness)
• Support to enhance student life for veterans and dependents on and off campus
  • Community outreach and engagement, including veteran gatherings, workshops, and networking events

The Gold Standard of Military Friendly Institutions

Middlesex College was placed in the Military Friendly Gold tier by G.I. Jobs magazine in 2022. The College was ranked No. 5 in the Top 10 of large public two-year colleges and is the only two-year New Jersey school to be recognized with the distinction. The College again earned the gold seal in 2023–2024.

How to Get Started

1. Apply to Middlesex College (We can waive the application fee)
2. Submit required documents (DD214, Certificate of Eligibility, etc.)
3. Wait for your acceptance letter (2–3 business days)
4. Meet with an academic advisor and register for classes
5. Submit the Request for Certification form (required every semester)
6. Your enrollment will be certified and billed to the VA

  • Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC)
  • Army Ignited
  • Upload the funding documents on the portal

Important Reminders

• Request for certification forms must be submitted every semester
• VA payments may take 3–4 weeks to post
• Always check your student email for updates
• Apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) even if you are using VA benefits
