Middlesex College Announces LPN to RN Program
The career mobility program allows New Jersey Licensed Practical Nurses a pathway to graduate with an associate degree in Nursing and take the NCLEX-RN in just one year.
Middlesex College will soon offer Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) a pathway to obtain their associate degree in Nursing through the College’s LPN to RN program. The accelerated program combines rigorous academics, hands-on clinical experience, and state-of-the-art simulation to expand the student’s skill set and prepare graduates to successfully pass their National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) in just one year.
“This three-semester program provides LPNs with an accessible opportunity to build on their clinical expertise and expand their scope of practice while continuing to serve the healthcare needs of our communities,” said Middlesex College Nursing Program Director Kara Kaldawi.
The program bridges the gap for LPNs seeking upward career mobility and a higher income ceiling at an affordable price.
“Helping healthcare workers to continue to advance in their careers involves reducing and removing barriers,” said Middlesex College President Mark McCormick. “This new option for Licensed Practical Nurses to enroll in our Registered Nursing Associate degree program smooths the pathway for LPNs and also contributes to statewide efforts to increase the number of RNs in New Jersey. As the demand for skilled nurses continues to grow, new programs like this play an important role in supporting our regional healthcare system and expanding opportunities for working professionals.”
Students enrolled in the program also gain access to Middlesex College’s network of partnerships with regional employers like Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJBarnabas Health.
“Launching this LPN-to-RN bridge program reflects Middlesex College’s commitment to creating additional pathways for working healthcare professionals to advance their education,” said Middlesex College Vice President of Academic Affairs Dionne Miller. “By supporting LPNs in taking the next step in their careers, we are strengthening the nursing workforce. I applaud our Nursing faculty and leadership for their hard work and commitment to making this pathway a reality.”
The LPN to RN program at Middlesex College has received provisional accreditation from the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Registration for this in-demand program begins August 2026.
