As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Middlesex College, members of the alumni community are sharing memories of their Middlesex College experience.
College Center represents numerous things to Middlesex College students and graduates. For Cindy Braun, it means romance.
College Center Room 115 is where Cindy met her eventual husband, Scott, for the first time.
“We became partners on a big project,” remembered Cindy, who was studying Hospitality, Food Service and Sanitation at the time. “That’s how we started dating. That’s how they get you! I always tell my students now to choose your partners wisely when working on a project.”
Later, College Center was where her future husband proposed after the class served a banquet dinner.
“He got down on one knee and the whole class was in on it,” Cindy said. “I said ‘yes’ of course. They all came out with balloons and flowers.”
Cindy and Scott received their associate degrees in 1990. They both went to East Stroudsburg University where they received bachelor’s degrees in Hospitality Management.
Cindy worked multiple roles in dining services before returning to Middlesex College and is now a faculty member in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, and Dietetics. She walks by Room 115 every day.
“It’s very romantic,” she laughed.
Cindy has held on to a few Middlesex College mementos over the years, such as a beloved old sweatshirt from 1988, but her favorite thing is her story of college romance. It’s become one of the favorite tales of Middlesex College President Mark McCormick.
Now married for 28 years, the couple’s two sons, Daniel and Gregory, also earned associate degrees from Middlesex College.
Over the span of six decades, Middlesex College has been the launchpad for success, both professionally and personally. Middlesex College is where Cindy Braun discovered learning—and love.
“I tell people I learned more at Middlesex than I did moving on to other places,” Cindy said. “What I really needed to know I learned at Middlesex.”
