Marine Corps veteran Melvin Rodas (Piscataway) is eager to become a Scarlet Knight when he joins Rutgers this fall.
The political science major says he’s always been interested in societal structures and how political decision-making affects everyone’s day-to-day lives. He hopes to one day serve the public as a legislator.
“Growing up in the projects in Far Rockaway and then moving to a small suburban town in New Jersey really exposed me to how different places can be. This, along with my exposure to eight years active duty as a Marine, only fueled my desire to learn more about government and politics. Therefore, I hope to serve as a dedicated public servant who represents all constituents rather than a select few.”
On campus, Rodas participated in the Philosophy Club, helped with the College’s recruitment efforts, and served as a work-study Ambassador for Veterans Services.
“Even when COVID was at its height, I could count on Middlesex College, and specifically Veterans Services in West Hall, to always ensure that my school experience was going flawlessly and according to plan. Now, after two years, I am looking to graduate with an AA in Liberal Arts/ Political Science, and that is all thanks to the push and motivation given by the faculty – full-time and part-time – and administration here at Middlesex College.”
