{"id":500,"date":"2023-09-28T10:42:20","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T14:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/middlesexcollege.edu\/financial-aid\/?page_id=500"},"modified":"2025-10-21T10:55:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T14:55:11","slug":"fafsa-simplification","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/middlesexcollege.edu\/financial-aid\/fafsa-simplification\/","title":{"rendered":"FAFSA Simplification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The FAFSA Simplification Act, passed by Congress in 2020, aims to reduce the number of questions on the application and make federal aid more readily available, particularly&nbsp;Pell&nbsp;Grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes have been implemented for the 2024-2025 FAFSA and will continue to be in effect for future FAFSA cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"section__box\" >\r\n  <div class=\"section__box-inner\">\r\n    <div class=\"section__box-content\">\r\n      <p><strong>The 2025\u20132026 FAFSA application is available now at <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">studentaid.gov<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading bb-primary-1\">What\u2019s Changed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>(Check back often for additional updates.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h4 fw-700\">\u201cEFC\u201d (expected family contribution) to \u201cSAI\u201d (student aid index)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective with the 2024\u20132025 FAFSA, the FAFSA will use the Student Aid Index (SAI)\u2014a new need analysis formula used when awarding need-based grants and scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h4 fw-700\">Introduction of new terminology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Contributor<\/strong> (anyone who is required to provide information on the FAFSA, such as a biological or adoptive parent; stepparent; or student\u2019s spouse).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consent<\/strong> (each contributor will need to consent to their information being included on the FAFSA).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a contributor does not provide consent, submission of the FAFSA will still be allowed, however, a Student Aid Index (SAI) will not be calculated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please note: Contributors without a Social Security Number must also provide consent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h4 fw-700\">Multiple children enrolled in college<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective with the 2024\u20132025 FAFSA, families should be aware that their financial aid calculations will no longer be impacted by having multiple children in college at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h4 fw-700\">\u201cEnrollment Entitlement\u201d is now \u201cEnrollment Intensity\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Up until the 2023\u20132024 award year, students received a prorated amount of their Pell award based on their enrollment status (full-time, three-quarter-time, half-time, or less-than-half-time). However, starting in the 2024\u20132025 award year, Pell Grant awards will be prorated based on a concept called <em>Enrollment Intensity<\/em>.
