{"id":44,"date":"2022-11-21T15:04:52","date_gmt":"2022-11-21T20:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/middlesexcollege.edu\/campus-safety\/?page_id=44"},"modified":"2023-06-06T17:09:21","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T21:09:21","slug":"emergency-response-guide","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/middlesexcollege.edu\/campus-safety\/emergency-response-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Response Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<div class=\"section__box\" >\r\n  <div class=\"section__box-inner\">\r\n    <div class=\"section__box-content\">\r\n      <p><strong>Report all emergencies to:<\/strong><br \/>\nMiddlesex College Police, call 732-906-2500; on campus, dial ext. 2500.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Important Information for All Emergencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Report all emergencies by calling 911 or 732.906.2500 from a cell phone or ext. 2500 from a campus phone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always follow instructions provided by emergency personnel and campus officials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay away from the affected area until given the \u201call clear\u201d by emergency personnel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whenever possible, assist persons with special needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Building Evacuation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gather personal belongings if safe to do so. <strong>Do not delay evacuation.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immediately evacuate the building using nearest safely accessible exit, closing doors and windows behind you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not use elevators.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet outside at area specified by instructor and await further instructions. (Assemble in the College\u2019s <em>suggested assembly areas<\/em> or as directed by Campus Police or emergency personnel).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist persons with special needs as able.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not attempt to re-enter the building<\/strong> until instructed to do so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Fire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Evacuate building immediately when alarm is activated or there is evidence of a fire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manually activate the nearest fire alarm system if alarm isn\u2019t already sounding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close doors and windows behind you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not use elevators.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call 732.906.2500 or ext. 2500 to report location of fire or smoke.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify fire personnel if you suspect someone is trapped in the building.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>If trapped in a room\/building,<\/em><\/strong> close as many doors and windows as possible between you and the fire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place cloth material (wet if possible) around\/under door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attempt to signal to someone outside the building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Shelter-in-Place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Instruction will be issued via available emergency notification systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay calm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek immediate shelter and remain there during the emergency rather than evacuate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess your location compared to the incident.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a hostile intruder scenario, lock the door and barricade yourself in the room with furniture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay out of sight from all doors and windows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Threatening Person<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any threat to person or property immediately contact College Police.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not confront the person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not block the person\u2019s access to an exit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When calling Campus Police 732.906.2500 or ext. 2500 (from an on campus phone) provide as much information as possible about the person and their direction of travel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Hostile Intruder\/Active Shooter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These incidents are dynamic and evolve rapidly. If you hear gunfire or see a person with a gun, take immediate steps to protect yourself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The steps below are a guide \u2013 but you need to use good judgment and common sense based on the incident at hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Run:<\/strong> Try to escape the area if possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hide:<\/strong> You may have to shelter in-place when an evacuation is not safe.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>If sheltering-in-place,<\/em> lock yourself in the room you are in or move to the nearest location that can be secured.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn off all lights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seek cover not visible<\/strong> through a window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Silence cell phones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remain quiet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fight:<\/strong> If suspect is in close proximity and you have no other choice, fight; police are on the way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the security threat is over, a police officer or another College official will notify everyone by giving some form of an \u201cAll Clear\u201d message. A message will also be sent via the Emergency Notification System.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"bb-primary-1 wp-block-heading\">Suspicious Package\/Object<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Remain calm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not touch or disturb the item.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not use a cell phone near the item.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evacuate immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call Campus Police 732.906.2500.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Important Information for All Emergencies Building Evacuation Fire Shelter-in-Place Threatening Person Hostile Intruder\/Active Shooter These incidents are dynamic and evolve rapidly.
