{"id":342,"date":"2022-05-31T09:11:54","date_gmt":"2022-05-31T13:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-www.middlesexcc.edu\/academics\/?page_id=342"},"modified":"2024-02-02T15:11:46","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T20:11:46","slug":"nursing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/middlesexcollege.edu\/academics\/health-professions\/nursing\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As a nursing student, you will be directly involved with the care of individuals, families, and communities promoting health, preventing illness, and providing care during times of illness and crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note: Admission to the program is limited.<\/strong> The College does not have space in this program for all people who apply, therefore a selective admissions process is used to admit applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nursing Degree Program prepares students for entry level positions in nursing and for taking the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). It has been approved by The New Jersey Council of Presidents, and accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Within your first semester you will:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, eating, toileting, and walking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess a patient\u2019s temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and level of pain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administer medication and perform highly technical skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor and evaluate patient responses to medications, nursing treatments, and medical procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teach patients methods to maintain or restore their health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use critical thinking in the clinical setting to provide care based upon current medical and nursing research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduates of the program will be able to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Manage nursing care in a manner that reflects integrity, legal and ethical principles, professional codes, and commitment to safety and quality for diverse patients, families, and communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advocate for patients and families in ways that promote their self-determination, integrity, and ongoing growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coordinate care with members of the healthcare team in a collegial spirit to plan and promote patient-centered care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze current, professional knowledge to make judgements that promote, maintain, and restore health and further the practice of nursing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assume clinical competencies appropriate to the roles of care provider, patient advocate, teacher, collaborator, and decision maker.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button btn btn--size-3\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"\/academics\/health-professions\/nursing\/program-outcomes\/\">Program Outcomes<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button btn btn--size-3\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/middlesexcc.emsicc.com\/program-code\/ms79\">Explore Careers and Salaries<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons\">\r\n  <div class=\"wp-block-button btn btn--size-3\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.course-catalog.com\/mcc\/C\/2024-2025\/degree\/88\">Course Requirements<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must demonstrate Algebra I competency before taking courses in the major. Algebra I competency may be verified with a passing score on the College\u2019s placement test or by completing the appropriate class. Students must have a \u201cB\u201d or better in high school or college laboratory biology and laboratory chemistry. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (High school GPA will be used if the student has less than 12 college credits at the time of application).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">*There may be additional requirements that are required depending on the major chosen.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"section__box\" >\r\n  <div
